Onassis Stegi — The European Spirit of Athens

Στέγη Ιδρύματος Ωνάση — Αθήνα

There are art spaces that merely host performances, and there are spaces that change the very meaning of art. The Onassis Stegi belongs to the latter category.

It opened in 2010 on Syngrou Avenue and quickly became the hub of Athens' contemporary performance and media art scene. Its curatorial model is closer to Berlin, Brussels, and Paris than to a classical Greek cultural institution.

What makes it unique

  • High-level contemporary theatre and performance art
  • Dance and audiovisual projects
  • XR / AI / new media and the connection between art and technology
  • Programs for showcasing new artists
  • Political and social dialogue through art
  • International networking of the Athenian art scene

If you want to experience Athens as a European art capital, Stegi is your answer.
