There are parts of Athens that make you feel like you're in a different city. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is exactly that — an entire cultural city within the city.
A donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to the Greek state, it was designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano and inaugurated in 2016–2017. Its architecture is futuristic and breathtaking at the same time.
What you'll find there
- The Greek National Opera with opera, ballet, and contemporary performances
- The National Library of Greece
- The enormous Stavros Niarchos Park with views of the Acropolis
- Open-air spaces for performances, screenings, installations and festivals
- Skate areas, electronic live music, and family activities
The unique vibe of the SNFCC is that it is open to everyone — from the opera lover to the skater and the family who wants to spend a different kind of afternoon. You can see an opera, skate, an open-air installation, and an electronic live show all on the same day. It's definitely worth it!
